The Sound of Leather

     When I first built a leather wrapped archtop guitar, I couldn’t believe the rich tone it produced. The combination of layers of laminate and leather create a rich tone that is appropriate for a variety of musical genres. As the archtop guitar comes from the art deco period, I’ve tried to stay traditional with an art deco design on my leather archtop models.

    This eL Welker e-L Series Guitar boasts a single Venetian cutaway on a laminated Poplar body covered in Midnight Blue leather. One-piece, French Polished Mahogany neck and Purpleheart headstock overlay. Single X brace. 1 3/4" neck at the nut, 24 3/4" scale, 3 1/4" x 17" body @ the lower bout. Oiled Purpleheart finger rest, compensated bridge saddle and tailpiece insert. Leather headstock inlay engraved w/ eL Welker logo. Ebony appointments include truss-rod cover, fretboard and volume/tone knobs. German Silver hardware includes block inlays on the fretboard !!!, Grover Rotomatic tuners, fretwire, bridge base, thumbscrew bridge elevators and tailpiece. Single body-mounted, Vermont-made Kent Armstrong PAF pickup w/ 12 pole-pieces. Body mounted volume & tone controls. Smile and tear-drop sound holes. Hand-tooled detailing on both edges of body rims. Premium TKL case included.
